Music video reflection (updated)

Screen Shot 2019-02-26 at 09.33.48.pngMy music video was pretty smooth as the transitions really had an affect on my music video, The start of my video had a nice transition when it changes from the woods to the games city which was unintentional, the video then has a pulse affect with the beat which needs fixing as it bugs out for a second other than that bit its all good.

I used a mix of clips from the spider-man game and some from the spider verse and real life. This worked well because it gave two different perspectives rather than just using game footage. It also worked in my favour to create this because I already had the costume and effects to make it happen (The web effect at 1:10).

The effect with the sun was completely intentional as I had planned my music video to have my outline with the sun blinding the camera, but unfortunately the camera had dust over it, so for my next project I will clean the camera lens before recording.

Then when Spider-man was running from the rolling generator that worked well with the build up of the song, The glitch affect looked cool and made it so you couldn’t see the pixels and increased the quality which is one way to solve a problem.

The video itself is my most viewed video on my channel and a lot of people must like it, also The band Warbly Jets liked it which is really cool. Reflection to the video it could be to make the video flow better than “pretty smooth”.

The scenes where I’m dancing are particularly affective because it fits in with the song I chose ‘How our story goes’, this allows the viewer to be taken away from all the action for a short moment, to be then brought back into it, this happens throughout the video and provided some rest bite between scenes (each new dance scene was different which made the whole piece more interesting and unexpected). The wide range of shots used throughout the video keeps the video fresh and exciting, instead of using the same types of shots.

At 0:31 I put a scene from the game that fitted well with the music drop, which gave a big impact for the scene and almost felt like you’re being hit as a viewer.

I used slow motion in a few clips to help with the action scenes and make them punchier upon impact, quick transitions to other clips were also used to keep it interesting and show off all the characters.

In terms of filming i didn’t have to record that much as the majority of the footage was from the game itself which worked for me as it meant I saved more time for editing which helped take off the pressure of the final deadline a bit.

What I would do next time:

  • record more footage
  • use some camera techniques
  • record away from the sun
  • use a better camera
  • plan a lot more so I don’t end up improvising my final piece

Film Trailer Research & final trailer

Task 1 – Initial Film Research

Kung Fu Panda

Kung fu panda was an animated film which was released in 2008. The audience for this film was debatable as the statistics show that there was 55% male viewers compared to 45% female. Although only 22.9% was from ages 25-34 years old in the UK and 30.3% of viewers were between the age of 7-14.

The film was animated which makes this film more family friendly and makes the visual comedy look funny, the film is a mix of genres from martial arts, action, adventure, comedy and animation. The rating for Kung fu panda is Pg which is one of the reasons why it is so popular with the younger generation. Because this is a animation it has a strong appeal to youth and also the 25-34 age bracket as it does feature comedy for adults  as well as children, especially with the likes of jack black.

Arguably the film is more popular with males than females because there are a large amount of fight scenes and male characters throughout the story.

Screen Shot 2019-02-04 at 11.32.38.png

The trailer for kung fu panda started off appealing like a serious animated movie until it reaches the middle of the trailer when it introduces the main character the panda who is less serious than the other sub characters which makes it instantly more funny through the use of humour. Also in the start of the trailer it gets straight into the action and when they introduce a character it shows a clip of their abilities, this simple approach to the introduction makes it easy for children to grasp the concept instantly.

Task 2 – New Genre research

If kung fu panda was a horror

The audience statistic for the 18-24 age group was 67% in the conjuring 2 (2016) this shows that the horror genre has a large impact on the younger generation, this is most likely because teenagers like gore and living fantasies whereas the older generation would like to watch something more civilised. The stats also show that males are marginally ahead of woman on popularity as the percentage of males is 51% compared to females which was 49%.

The “perfect” audience member for horror would be under the age of 25 as they would have more of a reaction through the thrills and scares that are dished out whether that be fiction or non fiction, young males and females are more prone to seeking out this feeling as it is exciting and they are naturally curious and willing to take more risks at a young age. Males are the most popular gender in this genre because there is more violence and danger which males are drawn to, a reason for this might be because most males play violent video games which may spark interests in this genre.

Women do like the suspense of horror just as much as men but an answer for the decrease of interest in this gender is because they’re more likely to be put off if children are involved as they’re more maternal and protective than men are over children.

The IT trailer starts off with a slow emotional build up between the two brothers with the paper boat, the piano music amplifies the emotion and as the trailer goes on it starts creating tension by playing high notes. It introduces the main character when the boy loses the ship down a drain, this is a sudden introduction which also plays along with the loud intensity of the music. The trailer then shows that it is from one of Stephen King’s novels, this instantly tells that this is going to be scary and full of jump scares. The trailer also builds up and introduces the main character more and starts revealing more of the storyline and sub characters who get involved with the missing boy.

Here is my final ‘Kung Fu Panda’ horror trailer which can be viewed on Youtube..

Optimus Prime vs Megatron HD Transformers The Movie 1986: Media review

First the camera starts off on the bottom giving a view of Optimus and a couple of other Autobot’s, this is a great shot to look at as it shows that Optimus is one great leader. Then as soon as the transformation SFX starts the song ‘the touch by Stan bush’ starts to play, this is a very good classic song…well one of my favourites and my nan is a fan of Stan bush.  The camera then focuses on Optimus as he transforms into a truck while its zooming out. The camera then goes into birds eye view and you get a good view of Optimus driving across a dam which the camera is looking towards. The camera then flips so Optimus is now driving away from the camera and the Decepticon’s are now in the camera zone.

The camera focuses on Megatron running with the other Decepticons as Optimus is chasing them. The camera follow’s Optimus as he rams each of the Decepticons in his lorry mode, flinging the bad bot’s all over the road as smoke and flame’s bellow in front of them from a nearby crash site. The camera the follows Optimus as he transforms back into a robot and jumping into the air and over an enemy and blasting him with a blaster. When Optimus lands on his feet the camera then switches to a 3rdperson view of Optimus blasting all of the Decepticons until they’re all on the floor. Optimus then catches up with Megatron, at this point the camera is focusing one character at a time. The song continues but the volume is lowered so you can hear Optimus and Megatron speak.

The camera the follows Megatron as he tackles Optimus to the ground, the electricity affect that  surrounds them both is a good way to show that they took damage from the fall. The camera then switches to another autobot called hot-rod which is showing the back of him looking up towards where Optimus and Megatron are fighting. The camera then switches back to the fight where Megatron is being thrown at a wall, there are crashing noises and to show more of an impact the camera shakes which I think it makes the scene feel more real. Then Optimus uppercuts Megatron with a sound affect which sounds like a knockout they use in cartoons for dramatic affect. Another good part is when Megatron is asking for mercy and as he lift his hand up the animators make his fingers smaller and bigger by an inch to add a twitching affect, the music then changes to a intense tune as something bad is about to happen. The background of the scene has mountains that looked like it was painted in real life, this is making the scene look more colourful. When the camera gets a close up of Optimus or Megatron there are more detail on their face to show that they have just been in a fight and that they’re both damaged.

pre production for short film.

Film Genre- action/adventure

My film is going to inspired by a music video for league of legends which was the archer so what i did was that i got all clips from Ashe from that music video (legends never die). I’m love the idea of archers and snow its a really good concept and makes things look cinematic. storyline and script I’m still working on it but i have a inspiration that i want to relate to so its not so bad. Having snow in my film would also make my film unique(i hope) If there’s no snow that’s fine its not all I have mine planned where it doesn’t have to involve snow.

My short film’s genre will be action/adventure which will be based in present 2019. the characters will be a white ninja which possesses a bow & arrows, an unknown villain who has dual wield swords, a female Ahri, and a obnoxious guy named Dareth.

This is suppose to give a Japanese vibe to the film but hopefully the ninja and music should help, archery is going to be involved and its going to be a fast paced film

Contextual research

  1. Action film/superhero film

Avengers: Infinity war

Avengers infinity war is a action film that has won 6 awards including 3 peoples choice awards and 3 teen choice awards. It is about a misunderstood villain named Thanos that came from the planet titan who wants to wipe out half of every living being as his planet got over populated and many people starved and thats what he is trying to do, He has been teased throughout the Marvel Cinematic Universe.  So all these superhero gather up to stop Thanos from getting all 6 infinity stones so he can kill half of all living things. This film was built up by the other marvel movies in the past and that is what made this film one of the biggest marvel movies of all time, and nearly every hero from the past was in it apart from a few others but they’re going to help with the plot in the next avengers film in 2019.

2. Animation

Spider-man: into the spider verse

This is the first animated comic book movie made with a comic book look and which is visually stunning and has been awarded ‘best animated film’ and has really good reviews and I may take a bit of the visual affects as inspiration as it really looks good, the film is about a teenage kid from brooklyn new york that got bitten by a radioactive spider in a subway and a evil rich guy has built a collider so other spider-man from different dimensions collide. This movie has beaten two other animated films which was the incredibles 2 and wreck it ralph2.

3. Comedy

Antman and the wasp

This film is not a stand up comedy but its naturally funny as theres at least two funny scenes in each 5 mins of the film, This film has jokes/puns and other ways of making the viewer laugh. As this film is about shrinking and the mixing with jokes makes the comedy work really well and this is what makes this film great. It full of fun easter eggs and references like a lab which was built on legos and batteries; its good. This film audience is more of a family film and aimed at 13 or early teens.

Game reflection and game (UPDATE)

My game is not so good, as its incomplete and is unplayable as you cannot win or collect the diamonds, i need to set the gravity back to 0 as the ball keeps escaping. I would also improve the picking up the items to complete the game as the player cannot do that…yet.

Ive got the majority of my game done and its only the just the pick ups that need work. A positive about the game is that it runs and it works.

Screen Shot 2018-12-13 at 13.51.36.png

Download game here

Update: The roll a ball had to be restarted as there was problems with it which was making the game unplayable as there was a problem involving with a code ‘AddForce’ and I couldn’t find a way around it so I gave up, and restarted the project which was a lot easier the second time as on the first time making this game i was clueless about these codes. But on the second time i had a lot more idea and it was a lot easier to do and looking back at it, it now looks a lot more simple.

music video reflection

cMy music video is pretty bad and I’ve made music videos in the past but the quality and context of my music video is really bad and its not good. I do however have a plan B which is a rainbow 6 siege montage/music video to undertake megalovania (remix) which the editing looks a lot more better and it has context. The only good parts about my video is the spiderman game clips and a few spider-man: into the spider verse clips. The problems i have with making the music video is that I didn’t have enough clips and i didn’t completely follow my story board either. Now I’ve lost a few clips which is annoying because I saved them on my pc drive but it didn’t save so I’m missing a few clips and i cannot locate them.

The only thing I found hard about this project is recording the clips on camera as the quality was really bad which kinda lowered my motivation to work, I also got less clips than what I thought I had. So i had to improvise and use more spider-man clips, my aim was to have the same amount of clips as each other so its perfectly balanced but it looks a bit over the edge. My music video could be a lot worse if i didn’t have experience with making music videos, sometimes the video would feel a bit out of place or not matching with the song.

On the good side of things about my music video is that its all related to one topic and its not going off topic. Another good thing about my music video is that the it runs smooth. The

Mv !

Well just in case my music video doesn’t go as planned then I really need a plan B so as my back up plan I will to use my other hobbie to my advantage and that is…GAMING! so i guess i will use my gaming clips. Which would be a rainbow 6 montage with fast music over it. I’ve already made one before but it v2 would be more edited and would have more affects and all of it would be mine apart from the song.

As Tom clancy’s rainbow 6 siege is a pegi-18 it will not be family friendly…maybe but the song will! its not explicit but because I’ve made so many music videos in the past based of my gameplay I don’t plan anything but it still works out. I am using sound affects and the video is to represent how much of a epic gamer i am and that it is one of my hobbies.
